'People
often forget what we mean when we say that art can change
are perception. Through art aspects of the world that are
unseen or thought of as valueless can be brought to the
surface of our attention where they can be recognised as
both important and beautiful.'
Michael Craig-Martin.
My
works looks at the history of surfaces and at the trace
of what has been. I use commonplace objects that belong
to me, the things I give least value to, and that are ultimately
the objects that are by far the most important ones in defining
ourselves and our lives, such as mobile phones, hairbrushes
and glasses. These paintings can be seen as a visual memory
of those familiar objects and their place in our lives.
My paintings are an attempt to use representation as a form
of abstraction; although my paintings use recognizable objects
as subject matter the work becomes abstract because of my
approach to the process of painting.
