Artist Statement

I use the computer as part of a sequential process to develop non-digital images.

As far as possible, undirected human movements are captured, translated into a digital code, recorded as lines and grounds, and stored within a synthetic hyperspace generated by a machine. Transference to a corporeal space begins with a machine made copy of the recorded movements being reproduced. This is the model for the production of a hand made copy. The corollary of these sequences produces what I consider to be a singular authentic “painting machine”.[1]

The sequence predetermines a set of thoughts for the possibilities for a painting. There is a return to thought, as decisions are re-made as the painting is made.

The entire process is a comment on states of perception. From an organic virtual hyperspace, (human thought). To a mechanical virtual hyperspace, (computer). To a plural, multiple mechanical “print out”, to the singular hand made authentic painting.
