| Having
graduated in 1969, I worked for some years in industry designing
jacquard fabrics, then tufted and printed carpets. As a
member of a studio group, I now create my own work for exhibition
and facilitate workshops. I am a member of 'New Fibre Art'
and the 'British Tapestry Group'.
As
a fibre artist I feel making my work accessible is important
and the fact that I am using basically simple techniques
with which most people can identify, contributes to this.
I am trying to push the boundaries of textile techniques
which I learned as a child, with the same fascination for
colour, texture and materials. Knitting, weaving, crochet,
collage, painting and drawing are my means of producing
images.
Unusual
materials can spark off ideas for a piece. Advances in science,
strong visual images such as children's drawings or unexpected
juxtapositions of objects linked with scraps of conversation
out of context seem to stimulate my creative processes.
