Statement |
I have created a series of hand built ceramic vessels inspired
by nature. The main focus has been on the human form, concentrating
on how the skin folds and creases. Whilst making the ceramic
forms, the negative space has become as important as the
vessels themselves. The vessels have many concave and convex
areas, which emphasise rhythm and movement throughout the
form.
The vessels have been covered in a cream terra-sigilata,
highly burnished severely times and fired to 980º. I have
then smoke or saggar fired the forms using hay and sawdust,
which creates an interesting natural surface.
I
am currently the Artist in Residence at Fred Longworth High
School, Tyldesley, Manchester.
