Kathryn Boyd
After working for 20 years at Lloyds TSB Bank I studied
at Wigan College of Art and then at Bolton University
where I graduated in July 2004 with a 1st Class BA Hons
in Visual Art, proving it’s never too late to do
something different with your life.
I am very interested in how health can be promoted through
art and have been involved with research for artworks
at the new Ince and Worsley Mesnes Health Centres, situated
in the Wigan area, where some of my own work is on display.
I am also concerned with recording, preserving and uncovering
local histories and consequently I have taken hundreds
of photographs of local areas many of which were taken
on the ‘Art Walks’ I do with an organisation
who helps support people with mental health problems by
introducing them to a number of activities, including
art. (This involves showing people how to use a digital
camera and how to load and manipulate their images on
the PC).
I won the 2D prize at The Wigan Open in 2005 and have
had some success in exhibiting my work e.g. a solo exhibition
this year at the Octagon Theatre in Bolton, Lancs. to
complement the Arthur Miller play ‘A View from the
Bridge’.
At the moment I'm working with Wigan's homeless, taking
photos of local areas and documenting their lives. Finally
some of my work is on display at Pye Studios , Market
Street, Hindley.
