Primarily a fine art printmaker, I use digital photography of local landscapes as a sketchbook to explore themes in my work. [Pennington Flash Sunset] The body of work Many-coloured land explored this interest filtered through the medium of memory and fantasy, producing richly coloured digital prints and lightboxes which evolved directly from my own photography. [Bonfire II] More recently, I have been looking at how in the UK, our ideas about what constitutes ‘landscape’ have been formed by the writing and art of the 18th and 19th centuries. It has become part of our culture, and our national identity. We think of it as natural, but it is every bit as man-made as a town or city. The environmental and ecological impact of mankind on the landscape is increasingly debated, and informs my most recent body of work. In it, I explore ideas about how representations of landscape inform how we think about it and how we use or abuse it. This has evolved into the current multiple layering of images to ‘create’ new landscapes through papermaking, overprinting, collage, stitching and ‘distressed’ elements using hand made and recycled paper pulp to represent the multi-layered and recycled character of our landscape. be updated. | | History of Exhibition and Projects (Selected) | 2006 UCLAN, Artlab 2nd Annual Exhibition, December UCLAN, Sight Lines Exhibition, (MA Degree Show), September Pyramid, Warrington.
